Enter Shawn:
Shawn is Colby's brother's wife's sister's baby. Ha, say that 3 times fast. Shawn is about 19 months old, and last year in June (I think) he was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer. It literally grew within a week inside his tiny little body. He had his 9 month check up and just a few days later as his momma was changing him, she felt a lump in his lower abdomen. Her peds doc immediately sent them to Children's Hospital where he was diagnosed. That lump she felt was actually a tumor the size of a softball, or small grapefruit growing inside his little abdomen. It was surrounding a couple arteries and tendons so surgery was not an option right away. He did four or five months of chemotherapy and then underwent surgery. Shawn is such a tough little guy (not to mention his momma is super tough.) They have been living at Ronald McDonald House because they lived too far away from Children's. Back in December little Shawn had his surgery and did great. Here's where the sunshine comes in; just this weekend Shawn had his last chemotherapy treatment!! Of course, they will have to stay in Seattle for a few weeks longer to finish up the last of their tests and figure out when he'll have to come back in for testing to make sure he's still good to go.
I hope you can find some sunshine in this story what with all the nasty stuff that's been going on! Things are looking up people, I can feel it!
